Prowlarr, Sonarr and Radarr
Spottr answers the Newznab API at /api, the protocol Prowlarr, Sonarr and Radarr use to search an indexer. Add it
once to Prowlarr; Prowlarr hands it to Sonarr and Radarr.
Verified 2026-10-18 with Prowlarr, Sonarr, Radarr and SABnzbd 5.1.3
Prowlarr's indexer test and searches per category; Sonarr's and Radarr's indexer tests through Prowlarr; a grab from a Prowlarr link that SABnzbd fetched from Spottr.
Connect Prowlarr
Prowlarr → Indexers → Add indexer → Generic Newznab.
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Name | Spottr |
| URL | Spottr's address as Prowlarr reaches it, for example http://<spottr-address>:8080 |
| API Path | /api |
| API Key | Spottr's API key: printed in the log of its first start (grep "API key"), or the value of API_KEY if you pinned one |
| Categories | read from Spottr when you test or save |
Reach Spottr directly, not through a signing-in proxy. Prowlarr cannot complete an interactive sign-in, so behind Authentik or a similar proxy every request would get a login page. On the same network as Spottr, use its own address and port. The API needs the key either way.
Prowlarr tests the indexer when you save it, and reads the categories from Spottr's capabilities. Sonarr and Radarr get it through Prowlarr's applications (Settings → Apps); check there that Automatic Search is on for it, or they only read its RSS feed and never search it for something missing.
What a search returns
| Newznab category | Spottr |
|---|---|
| 2000 Movies | movies |
| 5000 TV | series |
| 7000 Books | books and comics; 7020 Ebook is books, 7030 Comics is comics |
| 3000 Audio, 3030 Audiobook | audio |
| 1000 Console | games |
| 4000 PC | games and software |
| 6000 XXX | 18+, see below |
Several categories in one request combine: a Sonarr search for 5000 and 5040 gets series. A search without a category searches everything except 18+. Each result carries its category by the same table, so Sonarr sees a series as TV and not as a film.
18+ follows the same rule as the pages: only a request for 6000 on its own, and only when the server allows
18+ spots (ALLOW_ADULT=true). 6000 together with another category returns only the other one.
Search is by title (q). tvsearch and movie are answered as a title search; Spottr has no TVDB, TMDB or IMDb
identifiers, so Sonarr and Radarr search by name. At most 100 results per request.
The download links
Each result links to the NZB at /v1/spots/{id}/nzb?apikey=…:
- in the scheme the client used:
http://when Prowlarr reached Spottr on its plain address,https://through a proxy that says so inX-Forwarded-Proto(fromTRUSTED_PROXIESonly); - with the API key, because the NZB route needs it: Prowlarr, Sonarr and SABnzbd fetch it without a sign-in.
Prowlarr passes the link on: in our test SABnzbd fetched the NZB straight from Spottr. Whatever fetches it must be able to reach Spottr's address.
Sending without the Arr applications
From Spottr's own pages, Send to SABnzbd uploads the NZB to SABnzbd directly, with a category and the archive
password. That needs SAB_HOST and SAB_API_KEY in Spottr, not the Newznab API.
